Experiencing a Tilt on One Side of the Body while doing Some Asanas!

The tilt on one side of the body can be felt especially during Savasana. We must observe our body and make the necessary adjustments and alignments to remove the tilt. Simple adjustments, like pulling the buttock flesh out and to the sides in Savasana, can help one correct the alignment. Our students are repeatedly reminded to focus on the “Inner Triangle”, which is the key to good health. The two buttock bones should be in line with each other, so that the hips are square. Once this baseline is achieved, an imaginary line is drawn between the two buttock bones and the two pubic bone corners and  this line is joined at the navel. This “inner triangle” should always be lifted up in all the asanas.

We also advise doing arm releases, leg releases and simple asanas like Upavishta Konasana before the class. These releases help to align the body and remove the tilt even before the class starts,as a result of which, the asanas done in class are more productive.

At times, it is seen that the only goal of a few students is to feel better physically, and not progress in yoga with correct alignment. Yoga exercises may help one to ‘feel good’,  get better at asanas, leading to ambitiousness, multi-tasking and other qualities that boost our morale. But, the short-term feelings of joy and confidence are just that – short-term. Long-term advantages and benefits require correct knowledge of the asanas, commitment, and dedication.
