Today yoga does not need a definition or any introduction but it can be termed as a mindful and balanced approach to our way of life. Often, Yoga is not accessed due to lack of training or the correct knowledge of the subject. Guruji BKS Iyengar has given a system for today’s era and made it absolutely accessible with his technical and precise method in teaching. His system not only enables one to overcome the physical ailments if any but opens the path for inner quietude. The advantages are not only physical but benefit each one at a physiological and psychological level.
Shriyog Institute follows the Iyengar system of learning asana and pranayama with a blend of an Ayurvedic lifestyle, Indian Philosophy and culture to bring health and wholeness in every individual. Asanas are broken down and sessions are liberally sprinkled with mini anatomy lessons, Ayurveda tips or philosophy to kindle interest in exploring this science of the self. Classes are conducted for beginners and advanced students as well as children, senior citizens and women.
Shriyog Founder, Smt. Rajeshree Tupe is a student of Guruji BKS Iyengar, Dr Geeta Iyengar and Shri Prashant Iyengar for over 25 years and brings a unique blend of three brilliant teachers. She uses the holistic approach to health of body, mind and soul in an accessible way for her students through the intelligent practice of asana and pranayama. A certified senior Iyengar yoga teacher, she also holds a Diploma in Ayurveda & Lifestyle Management.
Her early days at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) kindled the fire of Yog and the gifts of the practice ignited a desire to share the teachings of this system. She began teaching after experiencing the tremendous healing and balancing power of yoga after the birth of her first child.
Teaching is in her blood and she takes on after her maternal grandfather who would ride long distances to teach Yog to children in schools. Her zeal for the subject and the desire to share her knowledge took the long route to slowly but steadily build awareness and interest in Iyengar yoga and Ayurveda in Pune. It culminated in the birth of ‘Shriyog Institute’, named after her father and a symbol of the deep gratitude for the blessings of her parents and teachers. It is her offering of Yog as her tribute to their Yog.
Yoga for women is very important and Rajeshree brings the wisdom and experience of Dr Geeta Iyengar’s training as she introduces the healthy and balanced age-old practices lost between generations. Nervous young first-time mothers-to-be are gently guided to a healthy and balanced approach to pregnancy while preparing for motherhood. They are guided on diet and lifestyle besides being supported in asana. Menopause is an inevitable stage in every woman’s life and Shriyog helps women at this juncture to transit smoothly to a new phase of life.
Special women’s classes at Shriyog are a platform to work towards a healthy and happy womanhood across all age groups.
Shriyog conducts regular yoga workshops for corporates which are customized to suit the different needs of various teams. Shriyog also welcomes the opportunity to create interest in Yoga through awareness activities and projects in schools and colleges. Shriyog has also conducted international workshops and is passionate about spreading the promise of Yog beyond the boundaries of Pune.
“Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and to endure what cannot be cured.” – BKS Iyengar
Many students come to Yoga with problems of health and Shriyog sees this as an opportunity to help those who suffer and offer them a way to healing. Understanding the growing need for Shriyog’s Yoga therapy sessions, RAJANI YOG FOUNDATION was established as a platform to help those with medical condition as well as support potential students who want to pursue teacher training at Shriyog. Named after Rajeshree’s spiritual guide, RAJANI YOG FOUNDATION is a charitable organization / trust under the Income Tax Act under Section 12A and has been granted the 80G sanction from the Income Tax department for its service towards society.
Shriyog has recently completed a publication of a five-volume series on Dnyaneshwari by Shri Sudhakar Lalsare. It is a humble attempt to introduce this beautiful commentary on the Bhagawad Gita. Most of these timeless tomes are hard to read and decipher for the modern reader and Shriyog wishes to make it accessible for the modern reader who is unfamiliar with the classical language of the old texts and commentaries. This is a project close to Rajeshree’s heart and she has poured her soul into all aspects of bringing the books to life. Other prints and publications include student manuals, training manuals, lectures and notes.
