Asanas are aWoman’s Best Friend!

Two asanas in particular – Upavishta Konasana and Badhha Konasana, are a woman’s best friends. These asanas can be practised during all periods –pre-menstruation, menstruation, menopause, and postmenopause. In other words, they can be done throughout a woman’s life. These poses work on the muscle flexibility of the hip location and groins, and help to avoid tightness in these areas; this is especially helpful for women above the age of 40 years, and inpostmenopausalwomen, when the body tends to get tighter and the muscles contract.

Supported Prasarita Padottanasana is another asana which is equally beneficial forwomen. This is done with the abdomen rested on a bolster/pillow/soft surface. It helps relax the lower abdomen and aids in dealing with anxiety too.
