What would you advise the youngsters, who have just started with yogasana practise?
In youth it is easy to get balance and a difficult asana. But as we move ahead in age, we should realise that along with the energy we should develop wisdom and compassion to ourselves. This can come only if we have a very strong foundation in asanas. Then asana practice doesn’t remain a chore but celebration with yourself through perfect alignment.
With youth comes an innocent confidence . We tend to think about life in black and white. We are either too confident and if we fail we start moving towards the other direction equally fast . This happens because of lack of passion and too much ego surrounding every activity . If we look beyond our ego and develop passion towards our practise or any activity we are doing, then we start thinking about the possibilities. We won’t get lethargic in our approach to deal with any hurdle and decide to just stay away from it . Instead we’d start thinking about different ways to approach this problem.
Even in asana practice our first Parsvottasana might be lethargic and reluctant. But as we move ahead and put an effort into trying, different possibilities emerge. Accessing different parts of our body to get the desired results and not just fixate on that one location which is rigid is a possibility that can help you to move ahead in your practice. So asana practice is a miniature version of life itself. When you are struck with an obstacle, you move towards the solution in terms of different possibilities. But to think about these possibilities we need to stay away from the lethargy of both body and the mind and keep the passion alive . Only passion takes us ahead in life. Of Course with it follows an equal amount of obstacles.
Even in asana practice sometimes we find passion in certain poses and then we go back to those poses again and again to try and find different possibilities in it. This helps us develop the right tendencies of the mind. Our mind is programmed with the way we behave every day and this leads to developing tendencies. So through Yogasana let the mind have a tendency to move towards possibilities.
