What are the poses for women of all ages, to help deal with the struggles we face at different stages of life?

Legs are the most affected part of a woman’s body, after going through pregnancy, premenopause and menopause. Even during the summer season, we find our legs feel heavier. As we age, our legs feel different every day. At such times, we need to learn to work from the organic body to release the tightness in the legs. Supta Padangusthasana-II can be a boon for women under such circumstances. The same asana has to be done in different variations during different seasons and at different phases of a woman’s life for optimum benefit.

The right extension in Supta Padangusthasana-II is very good for the organic health of uterus, bladder and ovaries. It helps in hot weather and hot flushes. The top-abdomen focus in the asana works wonders to relieve digestive issues, acidity and palpitation. It maintains the shape and health of our spine, keeps arthritis away, prevents sagging of the thighs and makes a woman look younger.

But, we should keep in mind that it is not a pose to show off our flexibility, but to help us endure the struggles during the menstrual cycle, premenopausal and menopausal phases.

Due to chemical changes, a woman’s body is  different every day. Hence, it is important to exercise intelligently and consistently, rather than excessively.

Asanas prepare us to dust ourselves up and get back onto our feet after every failure. As we grow older, we are rigid about failure, and believe that falling is not graceful. Asanas give us the spirit to try repeatedly after falling. And, asanas like Sirsasana are all about falling, getting up, and trying again and again, till we get it.  Supta Padangusthasana can be a woman’s go-to pose to recover and come back stronger after every struggle.
